  Dear Friends,

A synagogue is a house of worship, a place of study and a community. At Temple Shearith Israel, we seek to create meaningful and spiritual services, moments of peace in a hectic world. We teach Judaism to all ages, from kindergarten to adults and strive to apply the wisdom of Torah and Jewish tradition to modern day life. Temple Shearith Israel is a community, welcoming Jews-by-choice and interfaith families.

Located in the former Doubleday mansion, our synagogue home underwent an extensive renovation in 2006 and includes a beautiful new sanctuary and a large social hall for congregational events and celebrations. We have excellent religious school facilities, a library and a Judaica shop.

I welcome you to join us on a Friday night for Shabbat worship, to visit our religious school on a Sunday morning and to become a part of our extended family.

-Rabbi Eric Eisenkramer

Our building dates from 1890 when many palatial “summer cottages” were built in Ridgefield, Connecticut. It was owned by George Doubleday, Board Chairman of Ingersoll-Rand. He passed away at age 89 in 1955. His “Westmoreland” became Temple Shearith Israel in 1969. In 2006, the building underwent a complete renovation, providing us with a new sanctuary, social hall, and gracious and warm surroundings for worship, study and the celebration of simchas.
